Article on Air Taser Legality in PA

Almost every online or mail order store that carries the Air Taser has restrictions on where that product can be shipped to. Its around 8 states where most sellers won't ship this product to plus some cities where they are banned. We personally don't ship to those 8 states and 1 city Philadelphia,PA.

What made this article arise is when I received a phone call from an attorney who wanted to get some information about the legality of Air Tasers in Pennsylvania. The reason he was checking is because a friend of his got arrested when a police officer found a Air Taser on the back seat of his automobile. The attorney said his friend got arrested for possessing a "Prohibited Offensive Weapon".

Now from what I know, Stun Guns are not illegal in PA. Meaning the regular hand held stun devices which you must physically touch against an attacker because I read some of the PA code a while back but when it comes to Tasers, I didn't read anything about that.

However I did read in some online news paper archive a while back a little bit after that horrible Amish School shooting that happened in PA. In the story I read, the governor said something about an Air taser being "Illegal & Probibited". The Governor Mr. Ed Rendell mentioned this in there in that story in the online news archive because that gunman who committed those brutal murders in that Amish School shooting happened to have a Air Taser with him and the governor was commenting about this school shooting.

So apparently from what I gather, Air Tasers are legal to buy in PA because we and all the other online sellers ship to PA but it must be illegal to carry them in PA. The best advice I can give is if you live in PA and you wanted an air taser, don't take it outside your home or business.

The Taser law in PA in my opinion is a gray area. I tried finding laws about tasers at the time of this writing from various sources but none can answer my question. Even the attorney who contacted me searched the PA code and couldn't find anything. That is why he called us. The laws conflict eachother by what I understand. You can legally buy them in PA but according to the attorney who contacted me about his buddy getting arrested for possessing a prohibited offensive weapon and the governor of PA stating tasers are illegal there is a conflict in the laws.

So my advice is be careful about this in PA. So its legal for us to ship them to customers in PA but its illegal for people to possess them. Again as I stated above, if you buy one for self defense, don't use it outside your home or business.

If this is true that tasers are illegal in PA, that is a very stupid law. Air tasers are sold as non lethal weapons. The news a while back was saying air tasers aided in killing people somehow. However even if they did somehow, that number is very very small compared to firearms. Police use them all the time and they save the lives of suspects they are trying to arrest whom decide to pull knives or clubs and resist the arrest.

I support the right or the people to keep and bear arms as I do myself and carry a firearm for self defense and am licensed to carry in PA. But PA lets law abiding citizens carry handguns which can kill someone but ban air tasers which are non lethal weapons which save lives. What is wrong with this picture?
